In my capacity of Environmental Affairs Co-Director for Undergraduate Student government, I organized two Energy Transition Town Halls.
These town halls were created to address the difficulty that students, faculty and other members of the Carolina community have trying to understand the University’s climate progress and commitments.
Both events, the first in January and the second in November of 2023, consisted of a teach-in by campus sustainability experts followed by a Q&A session moderated by myself.
Partners for this event included Sustainable Carolina, the Institute for the Environment, the Renewable Energy Special Projects Committee, the Climate Crisis Committee, Graduate and Professional Student Government, and Undergraduate Student Government.
The first Town Hall drew a crowd of 40 and the second drew a crowd of 60, all with illuminating questions and insights about campus energy sustainability. As I leave student government behind in Undergrad, I am excited to see what my former student government colleagues iterate and build on this idea moving forward.
