Hi, I’m Ella

I am an interactive communications specialist with expertise in science communications and business development.

I have garnered extensive experience breaking down complex scientific and financial information for audiences ranging from C-suite executives to consumers. I also have experience running point on science communications strategy and building effective coalitions through work in academia and public and private sectors.

In addition to running my small business, ESF International, I am a researcher for the Center for Innovation and Sustainability for Local Media. I formerly led communications for the Data-Driven EnviroLab, an interdisciplinary research group.

I am working towards my Master’s in Media and Communication with a focus on Interactive Design Journalism at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill to expand and refine my technical expertise and skillset. Previously, I graduated with highest distinction and Phi Beta Kappa honors from UNC-Chapel Hill with a B.A. in economics and environmental studies and a minor in journalism.

My interest in data, economics and communications began in high school, when I worked with US House Representative Kurt Schrader as a campaign finance intern to achieve his re-election in 2018. In the years since, in tandem with earning a college education, I have worked with international organizations like Legacy International and Hanesbrands, Inc. to improve their organizational sustainability. I have also served on the Lake Oswego Sustainability Advisory Board, Chapel Hill Environmental Stewardship Advisory Board, and University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill student government to advance sustainable policies in my home and college towns.

I am enthusiastic to bring my communications expertise, technical skillset and critical analysis to organizations seeking clear-cut messaging, innovative solutions, and strategic growth.
